Goal Setting in Three Easy Steps

Goal setting can be overwhelming and difficult for many people. We read stories about all the steps to make sure you are setting goals properly. If you find goal setting difficult then I want to give you a surefire three-step goal setting process.

Goal Setting in the Major Categories

The key areas of your life that you should go about goal setting are subjective. Meaning, you wouldn’t set business goals if you don’t have a business to run. However, for most people, the key areas for goal setting are Health, Finance, Career, Family/Relationships, etc. The categories are up to you if, for example, you have spiritual or education goals, by all means add those categories.

Goal Setting – Make a Plan

Making the plan is the hard part of the goal setting process. You figured out what you wanted, but now can you design a plan to achieve your goal? Planning for a vacation is easier because usually the main part of the plan is figuring out how much the vacation will cost. Making a plan for your goals in life is a little more complicated. Hence, this is a reason many avoid setting goals in the first place. They are not sure exactly how to accomplish their goals.

Get Some Help in Goal Setting

No matter what it is, it is hard to reach goals by yourself. You will go a lot further in a shorter amount of time by getting others to help you on your way. Some of us have a tough time asking for help but it is vital if you are wanting to achieve anything.

How many millionaires have done it completely on their own? None have! Where does their money come from? Others. Where does the work come from? Others. Find people that are good at your weaknesses.

There are inventors who hire businessmen to run their companies because management and finances are not their strength. Some hire success coaches to help them achieve their goals because achievement is their life! There is nothing wrong with getting help to achieve your goals. In fact, it just may be the exact thing that you need to push you to success.

Affirmations for Goal Setting

We all need a good pep talk from time to time. It feels good and helps up stay positive. Affirm your goals to yourself, out loud, every day. This, at first, may feel a little bit weird but it will bring incredible results into your life. All you have to do is shout your goals out enthusiastically while stating how you would feel as if you have already achieved it.

For example, if you want to lose ten pounds and losing that ten pounds will put you down to 160 then state your affirmation: “I am feeling amazing now that I weigh 160!” Although you may see little benefit from it at first, you will start to believe yourself and the result will show. Affirming your success makes it fun and keeps you motivated to keep going. Give yourself a mini pep talk every day.

Keep Driving Toward Your Goal

I am sure you have heard you need to take daily action on your goals. Now what does daily action really mean? I have found the action does not have to be massive, but it must be consistent. Think about your vacation to Disney World again. If you decided to drive and the total distance was 1,000 miles to Disney World would you stop after 300 miles? No, you would continue to drive each hour and day until you arrived to Disney World. To accomplish your goals you must continue to move forward.

You can see that it doesn’t take a lot of action to be successful in life. You just need to be mindful of each of these areas and cultivate them by acting a little bit every day on your goals.
