Psychologists use the term self esteem to gauge a person’s overall evaluation and appraisal of her own worth. It includes both beliefs and emotions. Beliefs might include such phrases as ‘am incompetent’ or ‘am worthy’. Emotions might contain feelings of triumph, despair, pride or shame.
